Pupils at Cheltenham Ladies’ College are celebrating exceptional International Baccalaureate (IB) results, with an average point score of 40.2, equivalent to four A* grades at A Level.
An impressive 69% of students scored 40 points or higher, a score achieved by less than 10% of IB students worldwide. One student achieved the highest possible 45 points, a score awarded to less than 0.5% of students globally.
The IB Class of 2026 has secured places at a range of top universities globally. These include Cambridge, Durham, Oxford, LSE, and St Andrews in the UK, and global destinations such as Barnard College, CUHK, Dalhousie (Canada), HKU, HKUST, Northwestern, NYU, and the SciencesPo and Columbia University Dual Programme.
Courses range from Medicine, Law, Natural Sciences, Psychology, Philosophy, Politics and Economics, International Relations, Geography, Economics, Chinese, Business and Biological Sciences.
These successes build on a year of outstanding achievement, including the award of the prestigious Prince Philip Scholarship, to attend the University of Cambridge, recognising the exceptional talent, leadership and potential of our students.
The school’s overall results are significantly higher than the global average of 30.88 points. For Higher Level results, 90% of CLC results have been awarded a 7/6 grade, compared to a usual global average of approximately a quarter.
Executive Principal Eve Jardine-Young said: “Our IB Class of 2026 have achieved fantastic results this year and I am exceptionally proud of them.
“With students having met offers in the UK, US, Canada and across the world, they are set up to take on their futures with confidence and courage.”
Head of College Jemima Edney added: “I am delighted for all our IB students. These superb results are the outcome of their hard work and commitment to inquiry-based learning, consistently supported by excellent teaching and the educational ethos at CLC.”
The global outlook and ethos of the IB is woven into the CLC curriculum from Year 7 and is part of CLC’s educational ethos, encouraging students to go beyond their comfort zone and develop the courage to give things a go.
Dr David Gamblin, Vice-Principal Academic said: “The IB Diploma Programme is recognised worldwide for developing knowledgeable, thoughtful and compassionate young people.
“At CLC, that journey is shaped by exceptional teachers who spark curiosity, nurture ambition throughout College, and inspire pupils to achieve more than they thought possible, preparing them not only for university success, but for meaningful lives beyond school.”
