Students at Taunton School are celebrating after receiving their International Baccalaureate (IB) results today, Monday 6th July 2026.
Taunton School students achieved a 100% pass rate, with Paul B and Brodir S achieving the highest marks of 42 out of a possible 45, followed by Ella B who scored 41 and Gerleif S who achieved 40. The average score achieved by Taunton School students was 33.4, compared to the global average of 30.5.
Student Maria achieved seven points out of seven in all three of her Higher Level subjects (known as a 777) which is the equivalent of three A*s at A-Level and an exceptional feat only achieved by a small percentage of IB students around the world.
All students are now looking forward to their next steps, with top achiever Paul heading off to Stuttgart University in Germany, Brodir studying Business Management at Warwick or Durham University, and Ella studying Philosophy, Politics & Economics at either Warwick or Manchester University.
Adrian Roberts, Assistant Head Global and IB Coordinator at Taunton School, said: “I am incredibly proud of our 2026 IB students for all the work they have put in over the past two years which have led them to gaining an impressive set of results; I’m thrilled that their hard work has paid off.”
Taunton School’s 2026 IB cohort has been heavily involved in life at Taunton School, enjoying a number of the School’s 150+ co-curricular clubs and activities as well as its vast academic provision. Ella joined Taunton School in Year 12 on a 100% IB scholarship and has spent Year 13 as Deputy Head of School, while Gerleif has been a key member of the School’s Combined Cadet Force, and many other students have contributed to the School’s extensive music and drama provisions and its 120+ sports teams.
IB students at Taunton School received offers from a range of top universities this year, including in the UK, Italy, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, France, and the USA, extending the School’s vast global network.
The International Baccalaureate has been established for more than 50 years with Taunton School being one of the first in the South West to offer the diploma. The course is often chosen by the School’s international students but is becoming increasingly popular amongst its British students too as an alternative to A-Levels or BTECs.
The globally-recognised qualification enables students to study six subjects of their choice and three core elements known as theory of knowledge, extended essay and creativity, activity and service (CAS) and is taught in 143 countries around the world. A score of 36 out of 45 is equivalent to three A grades at A-Level.
Taunton School uniquely offers four pathways to higher education in its modern Sixth Form, with the IB being one of them. It offers a range of scholarships and assisted places each year, including for the IB which awards one student a 100% fee remission or two students a 50% remission, with applications now open – visit https://www.tauntonschool.co.uk/scholarships/ to find out more.
