Packed houses enjoyed peerless performances as Barnard Castle School students staged three recitals of the iconic musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
A kaleidoscope of colour stimulated the senses as Year 7 pupil Matthew Blackburn led a cast of classmates in a two hour Biblical bonanza to remember.
Director Dawn Trevor was thrilled with the shows, which comprised two evening spectacles and a matinee, involving students from Years 7-9.
“The whole cast has worked extremely hard and, in a very short period of time, has succeeded in producing an amazing technicolor show,” she said.
“At school we are strong believers in the power of the creative arts for pupils of all ages and abilities. Shows like this unlock a variety of soft skills that will benefit young people long into adulthood.
“Even over this relatively short rehearsal period I have seen the children grow and develop. The younger children looked up to the older students and loved being in their company. The older ones became mentors to their juniors and everyone grew in confidence, self-esteem and empathy, as well as resilience and the bravery associated with performing publicly.
“More than anything else performing arts is about creating memories and I am sure our pupils will remember this show for the rest of their lives.”
