Felsted School named among the UK’s best for cricket once again

Felsted School has once again been recognised by The Cricketer magazine as one of the top 100 independent senior schools for cricket in the UK, with Felsted Prep also featuring in the top 50 prep schools list.

The announcement comes as part of The Cricketer’s prestigious 2026 Schools Guide, which celebrates the country’s leading cricketing schools. Inclusion in the guide is based on a rigorous selection process assessing facilities, coaching provision, fixture programmes, and a school’s overall commitment to promoting cricket at every level.

“Cricket is an integral part of life at Felsted, so it’s a real honour to be recognised again among the country’s best,” said Felsted’s Director of Cricket, Jason Gallian, who is Interim Chair of cricket at Essex County Cricket Club and a former professional player for Essex, Nottinghamshire, Lancashire and England. “Our aim is to nurture a lifelong love of the game in pupils of all ages and abilities, while providing genuine pathways for talented players to progress into the professional arena.”

Felsted’s Head of Girls’ Cricket, Lissy Macleod, who currently plays for Essex and also represented Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred, added: “This recognition reflects the strength and depth of cricket across the school. We’re proud to see so many of our pupils, boys and girls alike, competing at county and national levels, while ensuring every pupil has the opportunity to enjoy and develop through cricket.”

Cricket has been part of Felsted’s sporting heritage since 1805, and the school has produced many first-class and international cricketers, the latest being Jordan Cox, who continues to shine on the national stage. In 2025, Jordan was named the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) Men’s Player of the Year, after a remarkable season that saw him score over 1,600 runs across all formats and earn a recall to the England squad for the T20 series against Ireland. His success is a proud reflection of Felsted’s enduring cricketing heritage and its commitment to developing both talent and character. Other Felstedians to represent their country include Derek Pringle, Nick Knight, John Stephenson, Grace Poole, Emma Jones and Jessica Olorenshaw.

Many current pupils are also making their mark, with Felsted’s strong links to Essex Cricket and its role as an Essex Women’s Performance Hub providing regular opportunities for elite coaching. The school runs extensive programmes for both boys and girls from the age of eight, offering individualised training, sports science support and a comprehensive fixture calendar.

“Cricket at Felsted is about opportunity, teamwork and ambition,” said Felsted Head, Chris Townsend. “To be recognised again by The Cricketer is a reflection of the dedication of our pupils and staff, and of our commitment to keeping cricket thriving at every level.”
