Ashville College’s Sixth Form Taster Day offers lessons in school life

A LEADING Yorkshire independent school is opening its doors to pupils poised to make important life decisions later this month.

Year 11s across the UK will soon need to decide which Sixth Form they wish to attend from September.

An immersive Taster Day at Harrogate’s Ashville College on Thursday, January 18, aims to give potential pupils a first-hand insight into much more than just the school’s learning environment.

Head of Ashville College, Rhiannon Wilkinson, says it’s vital that those choosing to enter Sixth Form have the opportunity to experience every aspect of school life, both in and out of the classroom.

“Ashville has always had a passion for excellence in teaching; indeed, the college offers no fewer than 25 A level, Cambridge Technical and BTEC courses,” she said. “Of those who completed Sixth Form with us last year, 94% went on to study at the university or institutions of their choice around the world.

“While academic objectives remain as important as ever, we also aim to educate ‘the whole person’ through opportunities afforded by our Future Ready and co-curricular programmes.

“Our academic and pastoral teams ensure not only that a strong academic culture and outstanding behaviour are maintained, there is also plenty of fun to be had – from incredible trips to end-of-term parties.”

The no-obligation Taster Day also offers the opportunity for potential pupils to try everything from a day in a suit to exclusive use of all the facilities in the college’s Sixth Form centre – including a popular café.

Sessions arranged on the day will cover subjects including biology, sport, computing, economics, politics, psychology, music and the performing arts.

Mrs Wilkinson added: “At Ashville, we work with every young person to get to know them and help them realise their potential, whether it’s in their chosen fields of study or their co-curricular pursuits.

“As well as being acknowledged and known during the course of day-to-day school life, each pupil is matched with a tutor who will see them daily and be their point of contact for any issues that arise throughout their time in the Sixth Form.

“We hope the event will also offer potential pupils an insight into how they can become role models for younger pupils through positions of leadership and involvement in co-curricular activities.”
