After 250 appearances in the Netball Super League and an impressive seven-year stint for England, Lindsay Keable has announced that she is to retire from professional netball this year and focus on her work as Head of Netball at Felsted School.

During a playing career spanning 16 years, Lindsay has played for Netball Super League (NSL) sides Team Bath, Celtic Dragons, Mavericks and most recently London Pulse. She represented England between 2011 and 2018 and is one of the most respected defenders in English netball, known for her effective rebounding skills and her ability to disrupt the shot.

‘It’s been a whirlwind,’ said Lindsay. ‘I was spotted for England at the age of 16 and have loved every minute of it since. Of course it has been an honour to represent my country, but I have also appreciated the friendship and support of every team-mate over the years’.

For the past eight years, Lindsay has balanced her professional netball career with her role leading the development of netball at Felsted, an independent co-educational boarding and day school in north Essex, alongside her roles of RS Teacher and Housemistress. Lindsay will continue in these roles after her professional retirement at the end of the 2022-23 NSL season and the Fast5 competition. She will also coach part-time at London Pulse’s academy.

‘Women’s sport is becoming so much more professional, not just netball but other sports too,’ said Lindsay. ‘There are so many opportunities for girls now, we have a duty to share our passion with them and show them how they can get the most out of sport, whether as a career, or just as part of a healthy active lifestyle, playing for fun.’

Since joining Felsted as Head of Netball, Lindsay has transformed the sport at the school and built a strong pathway for girls to progress in sport after leaving Felsted. Indeed, Felsted’s dedicated teaching and coaching team with a number of current or retired elite athletes, along with sporting partnerships and close connections with professional clubs including London Pulse and Saracens Mavericks Netball, Saracens Rugby and Sunrisers Women’s Cricket, coalesce to challenge pupils of all abilities, encouraging a healthy attitude to fitness and exercise.
