17-year-old Jack Skerry has secured a bronze medal at the British Swimming Championships. The Little Baddow teenager was on top form for the recent event in Sheffield, where he took the bronze medal in the 50m Backstroke for the 18 years age group and achieved personal bests in all of his five races.

In each race, Jack was one of just 25 swimmers to qualify for the 7-day championships which are organised annually by British Swimming, the governing body of swimming in the UK.

Jack, who is Deputy Head Boy at New Hall School in Chelmsford, brought home the first ever national swimming medal for the School. As well as winning the 50m Backstroke, he swam his way into the finals of the 100m Backstroke, 200m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle and the 100m Freestyle.

Jennifer Rice, Head of Swimming at New Hall School, who is a former international swimmer, said: “Jack trains for around 20 hours a week in the pool and the gym. His dedication to swimming is truly outstanding and this is a well-deserved result.”

Jack comments: “I’m delighted with my medal and my performance overall at this meeting. Now I’m looking forward to heading to Sheffield again in December for the Swim England National Winter Championships and hope to make the finals and win another medal.”

Alongside a successful academic programme, New Hall School provides excellent facilities and training for budding sports stars and fantastic music and performing arts provision.  The Catholic boarding and day school for students aged 1-18 has a distinctive ‘diamond model structure’ and a strong ethos of pastoral care, which supports students in their endeavours, allowing them to achieve success in a wide variety of fields.
