School children form number 70 in private grounds of Windsor Castle

Students and staff at St George’s School Windsor Castle have marked the Platinum Jubilee of the school’s Patron, Her Majesty The Queen, by forming the number 70 on the school’s playing field in the private grounds of Windsor Castle.

The gesture, involving almost 400 members of the school community, was followed by a celebratory Jubilee picnic and brought to the conclusion a half term of events marking the occasion, including a gala concert in St George’s Chapel, a baking competition and various arts and crafts, some of which are now on display across the town.

“We are very proud to have Her Majesty The Queen as our Patron,” explained William Goldsmith, head at St George’s School Windsor Castle. “Generations of St George’s students will have memories of seeing her and The Duke of Edinburgh on one of her numerous visits to the school, or riding or driving past on Home Park Private, always taking the time to wave or talk to the children.”

As the school’s Patron, Her Majesty The Queen has made several official visits to the school throughout her reign, including on St George’s Day in 1997 and most recently, in May 2011.

“I have no doubt the significance of these celebrations will be understood by the children. It is highly unlikely, most certainly within their lifetimes, that we will ever observe such a long reign again by a Monarch.” Goldsmith added.
