Leweston School geography students in Year 7 wrote to large companies, local MPs or Parliament about issues close to their heart after learning about Global Issues.

Year 7 students have enthusiastically been writing letters to people of importance after studying a range of Global Issues in Geography in the Spring term.

Many of the students wrote to the Prime Minster, local Member of Parliament, Chris Loder or big companies such as McDonald’s or Coca-Cola on issues close to their hearts.

Students chose to write about global warming, climate change or water poverty as well as the current reliance on plastic and the devastating impacts this is having on the planet. The students were delighted to have had several replies to their concerns detailing the action that is being taken to help resolve these long-term issues.

Huge congratulations to Ellie B, William W and Millie R, who all received fantastic news when they learnt their letters received replies from House of Commons, Parliament and even Sir David Attenborough! William was delighted when he received a handwritten letter from David Attenborough saying “Thank you for your letter. I agree with you. People should do all they can to reduce the amount of plastic that they use. Best wishes David Attenborough”. Millie received a two paged letter from a Correspondence Officer at 10 Downing Street, outlining what the Government’s ‘Twenty-five Year Environment Plan’ was and how they will tackle problems such as plastic pollution, and thanked Leweston School for writing to the Prime Minister about this important issue, and hoped the students remained interested in how they can help serve the environment.
