This St George’s Day marked an important milestone for St George’s School Ascot and nearby St George’s School Windsor Castle, as they announce plans to come together and create a new co-educational through school. The proposed new school – St George’s School, Windsor and Ascot – will offer a seamless education from ages 3 to 18 with access to excellent facilities across the two existing sites.
St George’s Windsor Castle is a co-educational day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 3 to 13 and is home to the choristers of St George’s Chapel. St George’s Ascot is a leading day and boarding school for girls aged 11 to 18. Located less than seven miles apart, the schools share long and proud histories, strong academic reputations, and a deep commitment to co-curricular life, particularly in music and the creative and performing arts.
By this summer, both schools will be part of the St Albans Education Group (STAEG), a growing charitable group of independent schools united by a shared commitment to educational excellence, outstanding pastoral care and forward-thinking leadership. With the support of this well-respected group, the schools will embark on this ambitious new chapter, bringing together their complementary strengths, shared values and vision.
The announcement comes at an early stage to ensure that staff, pupils and families can play a full part in shaping the future of the new school. Plans include St George’s Ascot becoming co-educational, with the first boys expected to join Years 7 and 9 from September 2027. The through school – St George’s, Windsor and Ascot – is anticipated to be fully operational by September 2028.
Headteachers Hannah Fox (Ascot) and Emma Károlyi (Windsor) are looking forward to working closely together. This move will strengthen the long-term sustainability of both schools and will create new opportunities for collaboration, innovation and investment in facilities, staff, and programmes benefiting all pupils. The schools’ shared commitment to high academic standards, strong pastoral care, and enabling every young person to thrive will remain at the heart of the new model.
Amber Waite, Principal of the St Albans Education Group said:
‘Bringing Windsor and Ascot together on St George’s Day feels especially fitting. This is a genuinely exciting opportunity to build a seamless, high-quality education for girls and boys from early years through to sixth form, while strengthening what already makes both schools so special.’
