From the Classroom to Bookshelf: Milton Abbey’s Ms Fitzgerald Publishes Book

Posted: 18th March 2026

We’re thrilled to share that Ms Fitzgerald of our Learning Development team has published her debut children’s book, ‘My Dog Floki’, a heart-warming, rhyming tale inspired by her beloved New Zealand Huntaway.

Milton Abbey School is thrilled to celebrate not one, but two published authors amongst it’s teaching staff. With ‘The Milton Abbey Story – An Illustrated History’, written and illustrated by our Design and Creative Media teacher, Mr Ratcliffe, Ms Fitzgerald, has recently joined the list.

Ms Fitzgerald, who joined our Learning Development team in September 2025, has already made a tremendous impact. Her students have been thriving under her guidance, developing confidence in executive functioning, strengthening study skills and building the tools they need to succeed both in and beyond the classroom. Alongside her dedication to teaching, she has also achieved a remarkable literary milestone.

Her debut children’s book, My Dog Floki, is a heart-warming story inspired by her own New Zealand Huntaway, Floki. Full of warmth and gentle humour, the tale follows the friendly and energetic dog as he explores woods, fields and babbling brooks, all the while dreaming of making friends with the birds he meets along the way. The idea for the book grew from Ms Fitzgerald’s countryside walks with her dog, where imagination and nature combined to spark a delightful story.

A lifelong lover of children’s literature, Ms Fitzgerald enjoyed reading rhyming stories to her two sons when they were young, particularly those by Julia Donaldson. Inspired by that playful, lyrical style, she has written a number of short rhyming stories over the years, with My Dog Floki becoming her first to be published.

The book is now available through Pegasus Publishers, as well as online retailers including Amazon, Waterstones and World of Books.

As we celebrate World Book Day, we are proud to recognise not only the joy of reading, but also the creativity within our own staff community. Congratulations to Ms Fitzgerald on this wonderful achievement, we look forward to seeing where her storytelling journey leads next.
