After nearly two decades of experience at Horsforth School, Sharon Mayo has been appointed as the new Head of Design Technology at Duchy College, Harrogate.

The re-introduction of Design Technology is one of many exciting new investments and forms part of the school’s expanded senior school curriculum, enhancing opportunities for innovation, creativity and practical learning. Design Technology will form part of the expanded senior school curriculum, as Harrogate Ladies’ College extends its co-ed provision and changes its name to Duchy College from September 2026.

“I am thrilled to be joining the team at Duchy College in September,” Mrs Mayo said.

“Creating a department from scratch is incredibly exciting. It is a chance to build something really special.

“The new Design Technology suite is bright, modern and incredibly well-equipped. Pupils will work with wood, plastics and metals, using both hand tools and machinery.

Alongside ongoing investments in a standalone Sixth Form Centre and refurbished boarding facilities, Principal, Joanna Fox, sees Design Technology as a key element of the school’s offering.

“We are delighted to welcome Sharon as Head of Design Technology,” Mrs Fox said.

“Sharon is an experienced educator with a clear passion for the subject and will be a wonderful addition to Duchy College.

“There is great excitement within the school community about the re-introduction of Design Technology to our curriculum, and we look forward to seeing Design Technology pupils flourish under Sharon’s leadership,” she said.
