Students and staff at Royal High Bath, GDST (RHB) have been celebrating World Kindness Day by sharing moments of kindness theyโve experienced within the school community, from small everyday gestures to moments that left a lasting impact.
Held annually on 13 November, World Kindness Day is a reminder of the power of compassion – but at Royal High, kindness is more than a one-day event. As one of the schoolโs core values, itโs something that is woven into daily life.
Students shared touching stories ranging from classmates sharing ingredients in Food Tech to friends helping each other catch up after missed lessons. One student recounted the experience of performing in a concert: โI was really nervous – then I saw that my friend had come to support me, even though she wasnโt performing herself. It was so kind of her to give up her time just to be there for me.โ
Members of staff also reflected on moments that have stayed with them, from surprise birthday celebrations organised by students to heartfelt thank you notes after trips. As one teacher put it, โThe girls look you in the eye and say โthank youโ at the end of every lesson – and they really mean it.โ
Beyond the bigger gestures, the RHB community highlighted the power of everyday kindness – holding open doors, sharing snacks, offering smiles, or helping new students find their way around.
These seemingly small actions have a profound impact on the wellbeing of students and staff. When asked โHow has kindness from others at Royal High made a difference in your day or your life?โ, the overwhelming theme in the responses was simple but powerful – kindness makes people happy. Many spoke about how these moments brightened their day, boosted their confidence, and reminded them that they belong to a truly caring community.
Heidi-Jayne Boyes, Head of Royal High, commented: โKindness is one of our defining values at Royal High, and itโs something we see in action every single day. Whether itโs a student supporting a friend, staff helping each other, or alumnae reaching out years later, these moments create a community where everyone feels valued and able to thrive.โ
