On Wednesday 14th May, Mr Hickey had the privilege of attending a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace hosted by His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The Education and Skills Garden Party, one of five garden parties hosted by His Majesty in 2025, brought together around 7,000 representatives from the education sector. Supported by the Department for Education, with Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson also in attendance, the event recognised and celebrated service and contribution to education across the UK.
As Headmaster of Haberdashers’ Adams, Mr Hickey’s commitment to social mobility has seen the school provide significantly more places to local children, and to those in receipt of Pupil Premium and Free School Meals. During his tenure, Haberdashers’ Adams has changed its name, gone fully co-ed and expanded to beyond 1000 pupils on roll. Mr Hickey has also overseen the rehousing of the senior boarding house, built two new teaching blocks, the sports pavilion and netball court. In the classroom
he has been Head of Music and Head of Drama. Thus, Mr Hickey’s main contributions to the extra curricular life of the school have come in The Arts where his significant overhaul of School Productions, Dixon Cup and House Music competitions will leave a lasting legacy.
Mr Hickey retires in August 2025 after seventeen years at Haberdashers’ Adams. He will be succeeded by Mr Daniel Biggins who is currently Deputy Head i/c Pastoral.
