Bryanston Named Official Sleep Champion

Posted: 3rd July 2026

Bryanston School has been officially recognised as a Sleep Champion by the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA), an accolade that feels particularly well-timed, as much of the country lies awake in a national heatwave.

The award reflects the school’s commitment to pupil wellbeing and an evidence-based approach to sleep education.

Throughout the past year, Bryanston’s PSHE and Physiotherapy teams have been working together to establish how pupils actually sleep. A whole-school sleep survey gave boarders the chance to share honestly about their routines, habits and the challenges they face, from screen time and stress to busy boarding school life.

The findings offered several areas for improvement, which will be introduced from the autumn term to support healthier routines, encourage good sleep habits and strengthen overall pupil wellbeing.

Sleep is one of the most powerful investments a young person can make in their own wellbeing. Research consistently shows that adequate, quality sleep underpins concentration, memory consolidation, emotional regulation, physical recovery, and mental health. For teenagers, whose natural circadian rhythms already pull them toward later nights and later mornings, getting enough of it matters more than ever.

The BSA’s Sleep Champion status is awarded to schools that demonstrate genuine, structured commitment to sleep as a component of pastoral care, not simply as part of a wellbeing policy. Bryanston’s recognition reflects the careful, collaborative work of the PSHE and Physiotherapy teams, who have driven this initiative from the ground up.

This is a fantastic achievement that reflects our commitment to pupil wellbeing and our proactive approach to sleep education. Congratulations to everyone involved, especially Katie Richards (Head of PSHE) and Mercedes Mills (Lead Physiotherapist).
