Felsted pupils celebrate GCSE results

Felsted School pupils have achieved impressive results in their GCSE exams this summer, with 60% achieving grades 9-7, 77% 9-6 and 98% 9-4. Felsted hosted over 80 hours of GCSE exam time, after a two year hiatus from external assessments.

“There are some exceptional results this year, with as many as a dozen pupils achieving better than six GCSEs at grade 9. There are also many others whose achievements reflect the brilliant progress that has been made” comments Head, Chris Townsend. “Achieving these results after a difficult few years is credit to the effort of all the teaching staff, pastoral support, parental commitment, and, most important of all, the hard work and determination of all the students.”

Felsted GCSE 2022 Key Highlights:

  • 97 students took GCSEs this summer
  • 60% of all entries were graded 9 – 7 (A*/A)
  • 100% achieved 9 – 6 grades in the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, German, Latin and Physics
  • 99% pass rate in English and Maths.

Among Felsted’s top GCSE performers were: Poppy H, Isabel W, Niamh W and Guy M-J. Poppy, Isabel and Niamh all achieved a full set of grade 9s plus two As and a B in Additional Maths respectively . 

Poppy, who joined Felsted in Year 7 from Hong Kong, is an Academic and Art Scholar and balances her studies playing hockey and tennis. She will be staying at Felsted Sixth Form to study for the International Baccalaureate Laureate Diploma in History, Chemistry, Maths Biology, English and French.

Sports Scholar Isabel was part of Felsted’s winning U16 hockey team at the National Championships at Lee Valley Olympic Park, and she also plays 1st team Netball and enjoys Cricket. Izzy is staying at Felsted Sixth Form to study A Levels in History, Maths and Politics.

Niamh is staying at Felsted to study A Levels in Biology, Maths and Psychology. An All Round Academic and Sports Scholar, Niamh plays 1st team Netball and Hockey and was also a key member of the National winning U16 team. She also plays for the Netball Superleague London Pulse U16 team.

Niamh comments; “I am delighted with my results. Moving to Felsted two years ago was the best decision I’ve ever made.”

Felsted’s top performing boy is all-round Academic and Sport Scholar Guy M-J. A skilled hockey player, Guy was part of the National Age Group (NAG) England Hockey programme in 2021, and recently won the Performance Centre Challenge Cup with his regional team!

Guy is staying at Felsted Sixth Form to study A Levels in Geography, Maths and Psychology, and will continue to play 1st team Cricket and Hockey.

Other top achievers include; Danielle F, Michaela H, Ellie D, Jemima L, Ambrose L, Toby S, Deborah A, Josh T and Shesh A-J. 

Drama Scholar Ellie D balanced her studies performing in Felsted’s production of My Fair Lady and Treasure Island, as well as being Co-Editor of ‘Source’, Felsted’s student magazine. Also a keen dancer and county swimmer, Ellie recently achieved her lifeguard qualification. She will be staying at Felsted to study A Levels in Biology, English Literature and Psychology where she hopes to apply to Oxford to study English.

Ellie comments; “I would like to thank my teachers and everyone at Felsted who has been so supportive to me, especially over the past year. I am so happy with my results and look forward to continuing my studies at Felsted.”

All-Round Scholar Toby is a keen musician, playing the Saxophone in the Felsted Jazz Band. He also enjoys hockey, playing for the 2nd team. Toby is continuing at Felsted next year, taking A Levels in Biology, Classics and Geography.
