National Finals for Gordon’s Netball Team

Posted: 12th February 2024

Through to the National Schools Finals of the England Netball competition, the Gordon’s First XI team, after beating seven of the top netball schools in London and the Southeast of England!

In a first for Gordon’s, the girls will compete against the top 18 teams in the country in March for the title of National School Champions.

The competition, in association with the British Army, is the largest and longest running tournament in English Netball, attracting around 1,500 teams over three age groups, with players starting the competition at county level.

Maybe the girls were spurred on to win the regional final as the date coincided with General Gordon’s birthday (Sunday 28th January), but in each of the seven games at Shirley High School in Croydon, they gave their all, demonstrating skill, tenacity and endurance.

Gordon’s v Coopers’ Company and Coburn School: 23-5 win

Gordon’s v Sydenham High:12-6 win

Gordon’s v North London Collegiate: 12-7 win
Gordon’s v Barking Abbey: 15-7 win
Gordon’s v St Paul’s Girls’: 12-10 win
Gordon’s v Guildford high school: 13-8 win
Gordon’s v Walthamstow Hall and won: 16-5 win

Gordon’s School partners Superleague netball team Surrey Storm and offers scholarships in the sport to talented players. Several players currently turn out for international teams. The U13 netball team are reigning Champions of the World Schools Games Netball U13 Cup and U15s are Plate Champions of the same competition in which the U19s were finalists.

Team Captain Sophie Bodell reflected on the Regional Finals, saying: “We were all so up for the challenge and approached every game with such enthusiasm, focus and determination. We successfully won 7/7 games making us national finalists! The girls played relentlessly throughout the whole day and it was clear to see the hard work we had put into training paid off. The finals are held in Peterborough in March and we’re all so excited for the opportunity.

She added: “We couldn’t have done it without our incredible coaches Miss Humphreys, Miss Fripp and Miss Moher. They put so much work in behind the scenes and we’re incredibly lucky to have them. I am beyond proud of this team and feel very honoured to captain such a hard-working group of girls as we head to nationals”.
