Posted: 19th October 2026

Mayfield School has been named Independent School of the Year for Student Wellbeing 2026.

Mayfield, an independent Catholic day and boarding school for girls aged 11-18 in East Sussex, was praised by judges for its whole-school approach and exceptional pastoral care.

They added that student leadership, outstanding facilities and a carefully structured school day created a culture in which every pupil feels known, valued and championed.

Deborah Bligh, Headmistress of Mayfield School, said: β€œWe are absolutely delighted to receive this award. At Mayfield, wellbeing is not a programme or a standalone initiative; it is woven into every aspect of school life.

β€œWe believe girls learn best when they feel safe, understood and valued. This award reflects the dedication of our staff, the contribution of our students and the strength of a community that places care, connection and belonging at its heart.

β€œWhat makes this recognition particularly special is that it acknowledges something we witness every day: young people growing in confidence, resilience and happiness because they know they are surrounded by people who believe in them.”
