Kingswood School is celebrating a record Oxbridge success, with all seven students who received offers from Oxford and Cambridge Universities securing their places.
This represents the highest number of Oxbridge places secured by students from the Bath-based school in a single year. The successful students are beginning their university studies this autumn.
Andrew Gordon-Brown, Headmaster at Kingswood School, said: “Seven Oxbridge places in one year is a wonderful achievement and a real reflection of the dedication of these students.
“What’s particularly special is hearing the different ways in which they have approached their studies and the opportunities available to them at Kingswood.
“From exploring ideas beyond the curriculum to preparing for interviews and challenging examinations, they have made the most of the support around them while developing the independence they need for their next stage of education.”
Kingswood offers its students applying to Oxford, Cambridge and other selective universities a full programme of preparation, advice and support. This includes visits to universities and meetings with admissions tutors in Year 12, and weekly preparation sessions with subject teachers, plus mock interviews, in Year 13.
For the students themselves, securing their places marks the culmination of months of preparation, and years of developing their interests and confidence at Kingswood.
Charlie W, who is studying Medicine at Cambridge, said: “It’s incredibly rewarding to see all the hard work pay off, and I’m hugely grateful for all the support I’ve received from Kingswood along the way.”
Tom T-H, studying History and French at Cambridge, said: “It feels like the exciting, if intimidating, beginning to a new chapter of my educational career. Kingswood gave me the support to step out of my comfort zone and begin exploring my subjects critically and beyond what was taught in the classroom.”
Rei H, studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge, said: “Kingswood prepared me very well for the academic demands of Oxbridge, while also giving me the confidence to work independently. The support and encouragement from my teachers played a huge part.”
And Isane S, studying Mathematics at Cambridge, added: “I’m very excited to study Maths at one of the world’s leading institutions in this field!”
