Milton Abbey opens Old Miltonian Hospitality Kitchen

Posted: 7th October 2026

Milton Abbey School has opened a new professional kitchen to inspire students to develop practical cooking, hospitality and life skills.

The Old Miltonian Hospitality Kitchen has been funded by a Β£40,000 donation from the Milton Abbey Association (MAA), and Β£12,000 from pupils through a variety of fundraising challenges.

A final Β£18,000 donation from an anonymous Old Miltonian helped the school reach its Β£70,000 target.

The official opening was attended by MAA President Hugo Mieville, Headmaster James Watson, Chair of Governors Ian Bromilow, and Governor and Old Miltonian Justin Frampton.

The extensive refurbishment has included new electrical, plumbing and gas systems, new flooring, a purpose-built teaching station, extensive plastering and painting, and the installation of new kitchen equipment and cookers.

Mr Watson said: β€œMilton Abbey has a remarkable record of turning out 5-star chefs and award-winning sommeliers. I look forward to the considerable personal sacrifice of sampling the delicious creations that the next generation will produce in this outstanding professional kitchen.

β€œArtificial Intelligence has not yet worked out how to boil an egg or raise a soufflΓ©, and this kitchen is a key component in preparing our students for both everyday life and interesting careers. Thanks to the Alumni Association for the capital which got the project underway, to the pupils for fundraising in the summer, and to the anonymous Old Boy benefactor, who incredibly finished everything off.”

Milton Abbey is an independent co-ed boarding and day school in Dorset.
