Judges hail winning performance as “a flawless piece of theatrical art”
Brighton College has been crowned All England Dance National Champion, following an outstanding performance at the prestigious All England Dance National Finals in Eastbourne.
Competing against the country’s leading dance schools in the fiercely contested 21 & Under Senior Jazz and Modern Large Group category, Brighton College was one of only two schools nationwide to qualify two separate routines for the national final.
The College’s performance was nothing short of extraordinary. Abracadabra was crowned National Champion, receiving a perfect score of 30 from the judges, who described the choreography as “a flawless piece of theatrical art”.
Across all age groups and categories this year, only three other dances have achieved the coveted ‘triple ten’ score. Historically, just 0.1% of routines have ever received full marks, making the achievement exceptionally rare.
The success continued with Message in a Bottle, which earned national acclaim last year, securing Second Runner-Up at this year’s finals. The results are even more remarkable given Brighton College was competing against specialist dance schools rather than academic schools.
Steve Marshall-Taylor, Head Master of Brighton College, said: “Many congratulations to all pupils, and in particular to our Director of Dance, Amanda, whose exceptional choreography and dedication have brought this about. Her artistry and genius are linked to the unity and power of the ensemble, rather than any individual stars, and this was evident in the friendships and strong bonds forged among the dancers, as well as in their stunning performances.”
These remarkable results are the latest in a series of dance successes, further cementing Brighton College’s reputation as the UK’s leading school for dance.
