Millfield Prep School is delighted to announce the appointment of former professional hockey player Craig Boyne as its new Director of Sport.
Craig will take up the role in September 2026 and brings extensive experience as a Director of Sport, senior school leader and international athlete, having represented Australia at the highest level of hockey.
Most recently, Craig was Deputy Head, Director of Sport and Designated Safeguarding Lead at Wellesley Haddon Dene School, where he played a key role in shaping the school’s strategic direction while leading the continued development of its sporting programme. Prior to this, as Head of Hockey, Tennis and Elite Performance at Kent College Senior School, he built a high-performing coaching team and oversaw sustained success across a range of sports and competitive levels.
An accomplished international hockey player, Craig represented Australia during a period when the nation was ranked number one in the world. Since relocating to the UK, he has won the England Hockey Premier Division title with Beeston Hockey Club and served as Men’s Head Coach and player at Canterbury Hockey Club, working with athletes from grassroots participation through to the highest level of English hockey.
Craig’s experience as both an elite athlete and coach gives him a deep understanding of the culture, standards and leadership required to develop sporting excellence, while his extensive experience in schools reflects his commitment to the wider development of young people.
Reflecting on his appointment, Craig said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Millfield Prep as Director of Sport. I feel incredibly privileged to become part of such an exceptional sporting community, and I look forward to inspiring every child to develop a lifelong love of sport while discovering the enjoyment, confidence and friendships that it can bring”.
