Taunton School studentΒ gainsΒ place with National Youth Theatre

A Taunton School student has gained a place with the prestigious National Youth Theatre.

Arthur, a Year 12 student at theΒ School,Β has been awarded the place following a rigorous audition process and many years of honing his talent.

Of his achievement, Arthur commented: β€œI’mΒ so proud that IΒ have gotΒ into the National Youth Theatre; soΒ many amazing actors have gone throughΒ theΒ NYTΒ andΒ I’mΒ thrilled to be a part of it.Β A massive thank you to all my teachers who have helped me along the way – without them IΒ wouldn’tΒ be where I am today.Β I am now looking towards the future with excitement and anticipation overΒ what’sΒ to come.”

Arthur joined Taunton School inΒ Year 5Β and since then he has taken part inΒ more than 12Β fullΒ productions, including Legally BlondeΒ andΒ TheΒ Addams FamilyΒ at Taunton’s Brewhouse,Β plusΒ The Watsons, One Man, Two Guvnors,Β and Bronte in the School theatre,Β and is currentlyΒ rehearsing for Dracula.Β These areΒ in addition to productions he has been part of outsideΒ of School, including with the Taunton Youth TheatreΒ at The Brewhouse.

Arthur is currently studying Drama A-LevelΒ (as well as Spanish, Philosophy, and English Literature)Β after achieving a grade 9 in GCSE DramaΒ and isΒ participatingΒ in a range of co-curricular activitiesΒ too.Β He also recently signed with Seaside Kids Casting, the company whichΒ representsΒ theΒ actressΒ who voices Peppa Pig.

On top of this, ArthurΒ has studied atΒ LAMDAΒ forΒ a number ofΒ years and has recently completed hisΒ Grade 8 GoldΒ forΒ which he received a Distinction, and hasΒ this week beenΒ includedΒ in theΒ National Youth Monologues Regional Shortlist.

The National Youth TheatreΒ wasΒ the world’s first youth theatre and offers industry-leading training and exclusive opportunities to perform in London’s West End theatres. ItsΒ alumniΒ includesΒ the likes of Helen Mirren, Daniel Craig,Β andΒ Orlando Bloom. The institution regularly partners with Netflix, BBC,Β Sky,Β and other entertainment giants.

Taunton School hasΒ a strong reputationΒ for its extensive Performing ArtsΒ departmentΒ which includes four major productions and over 100 music events each year. Its academic provision runs in tandem with its vast co-curricularΒ programmeΒ which includes a range of music, drama, and dance clubs.
