Finley, a student from Taunton School, has won the Somerset Schools Golf Championship, qualifying for the South West Schools Golf Championship.
The Year 11 student finished with a score of 68 and a three-shot victory – an incredible achievement against 99 of the best players in the region.
On top of this, students Oscar, Thomas, and Lewis finished in the top 20, with two Taunton Prep School pupils, Charlie and Albie, performing well too.
Finley said of his achievement: “I’m really proud to have won the Somerset Schools Golf Championship and to qualify for the South West Championships amongst so many brilliant players. I couldn’t have done it without the incredible support I’ve had at Taunton School — from the coaching, to the facilities, to the encouragement I’ve received from the whole school community, they have all helped me grow so much as a golfer.”
The School has recently seen students Alice, Charlotte, Clementina, and Viktoria compete in the South West Golf League – the first time the School has been able to enter female pairs as part of the team.
Taunton School has now opened a brand-new golf performance area on its campus which includes a short game area and a putting green, offering students an effective space to practise on various surfaces designed to mimic a real golf course. This accompanies the School’s existing indoor golf simulator.

Our rapidly expanding golf provision is opening up even more opportunities for them and it is great to see individuals competing across a range of regional and national events.
“Our new short game area is a fantastic addition to the campus and is already enhancing students’ training and development. I’m excited to see how far we can take the programme!”
The golf provision at Taunton School is part of a huge co-curricular programme consisting of 150+ clubs and activities with the sports section holding more than 120 teams across 20+ sports.
