Two Taunton School students have gained prestigious Oxbridge offers, withΒ TillyΒ gaining a conditional offer to studyΒ HistoryΒ atΒ theΒ UniversityΒ ofΒ Oxford and Jack gaining an unconditional offer to studyΒ Natural SciencesΒ atΒ the University of Cambridge.

Year 13Β TillyΒ is currently studyingΒ English Literature, History andΒ Mathematics A-Levels,Β while Jack graduated from Taunton SchoolΒ in 2025Β after receivingΒ four A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Latin andΒ Mathematics, plus a further A* in his Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), before taking a gap year.

Tilly, a proud academic scholar, joined Taunton School in Year 7, while Jack, also an academic scholar,Β joinedΒ inΒ Nursery.

Head of Sixth Form, Jennifer Taylor, said: β€œI am delighted for Jack andΒ TillyΒ for these incredibly prestigious offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge. They both approach everyday life with intellectual curiosity, a genuine love of learning, and an impressive academic foundation. Their achievements are a testament not only to their outstanding ability, but also to the perseverance, ambition, and passion they bring to their studies.”

Both students have had a significant impact on theΒ School’sΒ co-curricular provision, withΒ TillyΒ heavily involved inΒ the LISK History Society, debating, and tennis, all while training for her second half marathon. Jack was a key member of theΒ School’sΒ scienceΒ department,Β attending a UK-Japan young scientist exchangeΒ tripΒ at the University of Cambridge in July 2024,Β andΒ its music department where heΒ playedΒ the trumpetΒ as part ofΒ the dance bandΒ andΒ sangΒ in the choir.

TillyΒ said: β€œI’mΒ very excitedΒ to be going to Oxford. I love History and feelΒ really luckyΒ to have the opportunity to learn from and study amongst people who are equally as passionate, particularly at a college as beautiful as Christ Church, with such a rich history itself.

β€œTaunton School was immensely helpful in getting me to this point, especially the teachers in the History department, the Futures team,Β and Dr Mallard, Deputy Head Academic, who wentΒ above and beyond toΒ help me with my interview techniques,Β evenΒ organisingΒ a range of internal and external mock interviews.Β Gaining familiarity with such an intenseΒ experience was invaluable.”

Each year,Β Sixth Form students aspiring to study at Oxford or CambridgeΒ are ableΒ toΒ takeΒ part in aΒ programmeΒ of specialist sessionsΒ organisedΒ by academic staff and the Futures teamΒ toΒ helpΒ boost their Oxbridge applications and interview techniques.
