Taunton School named as Lawn Tennis Association’s Somerset School of the Year

Taunton School has been named as the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA)’s Somerset School of the Year.

The School was chosen for this award following several parent nominations, which were reviewed and evaluated by expert judges from the Somerset LTA to determine a winner.

The LTA awards were launched in 2015 with the aim of shining a spotlight on the outstanding achievements and contributions of individuals and organisations across the UK.

Shaun Carroll, Head of Tennis at Taunton School, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that Taunton School’s tennis programme has been recognised in this way, and I’d like to thank Somerset Tennis for this honour. This achievement is a testament to our pupils’ incredible hard work and the fantastic support we are so grateful to receive from our parent community.”

Shaun, who has worked at Taunton School for 12 years, found himself nominated at this year’s award for the Somerset Coach of the Year accolade. This nomination comes after three of its pupils were selected for the Somerset U9 county team and a regional training event in Basingstoke – a first for Taunton School.

The School has a strong relationship with the LTA, last year welcoming LTA President Sandi Proctor and Somerset Tennis Chairman Andy Fay to its campus, and Shaun Carroll being captain of the Somerset county team and U12 and U14 teams which have qualified for the upcoming county cup.

Tennis is a core sport at Taunton School with its provision including all students from Reception upwards, with a dedicated pathway available to everyone, and 1:1 and small group coaching on offer as standard.
