Students in Years 9 to 13 at Taunton School will present five performances of Legally Blonde: The Musical at The Brewhouse, Taunton in March 2026.
Rehearsals are already underway for this fun and inspiring musical production, with the cast of 70 chosen through an audition process and 10 students supporting with backstage roles. Music will be provided by a professional orchestra which will include Taunton School staff members and Year 11 student Matilda who also has an on-stage role during the show.
Taunton School hosts a production at The Brewhouse every two years; the most recent being five performances of The Addams Family in March 2024 which sold 1,354 tickets and received extraordinary feedback.
Janey Carden, Head of Co-Curricular Drama at Taunton School, said: “This is a huge undertaking with so many students involved, however, rehearsals have been a blast – fast-moving, busy, funny, and stressful in equal measure, but we always leave with a smile on our face and a spring in our step.
“I can’t wait to see this production play out on the Brewhouse stage and for all our hard work to pay off. We’re also very excited about two additional stars who will be joining us on stage – their identity will be kept a secret until opening night, except to say, they have eight legs between them! It’s set to be a fantastic week!”
Legally Blonde is a heart-warming and energetic journey of self-discovery which sees main character Elle Woods unexpectedly begin studying Law at Harvard. The musical has been a West End and Broadway hit and is imminently embarking on a UK-wide tour. Taunton School students are excited to follow in its footsteps with their own rendition.
Year 12 student Isabella, a drama scholar and International Baccalaureate student, has been selected for the lead role due to her exceptional singing, dancing, and acting abilities. Isabella has also recently been selected for the Ireland U17 European Championship netball squad. Having proven herself in previous Taunton School productions including The Watsons, Magic of the Musicals, and The Addams Family, Isabella is sure to impress as Elle Woods.
Taunton School boasts an extensive Performing Arts provision which includes four major productions and more than 100 musical performances each year alongside drama and music GCSEs, A-Levels and International Baccalaureate courses.
