Lara Péchard announced as new Head of Felsted School

Posted: 7th January 2026

Felsted School has announced the appointment of Lara Péchard, as its 29th Head, taking over the role in September 2026.

Chair of Governors, Mike Beale commented: “Felsted School is consistently recognised for its comprehensive achievements in academia, pastoral care, sports and community leadership. We are excited to work with Lara in creating the next chapter of the school’s 460 year history, building on its distinctive character and, under her leadership, forging a Felsted education that is resolutely forward-looking and ambitious for all.”

With a close affection for and relationship with the surrounding region, Lara knows Felsted well and has a good understanding of the importance it holds for pupils, parents and alumni across its catchment area and internationally. She is particularly enthusiastic about the prospect of building on the school’s reputation for character growth and educational excellence.

Known as an inspirational and dynamic leader, Lara has more than 25 years’ experience working in world-class independent schools. She takes up the role at Felsted from her previous position as Head of St Margaret’s School, a leading independent boarding and day school in Hertfordshire. Under her leadership, St Margaret’s has seen substantial improvements to facilities and infrastructure, and is known to be a well-loved school that is greatly appreciated by its families and community. This work has been praised throughout three highly successful ISI Inspections.

Lara comes to Felsted with her husband and two children. She commented: “It is a privilege to be appointed Head of Felsted School. Felsted’s reputation for its warmth of community, academic excellence and outstanding pastoral care is widely admired, and I am greatly looking forward to joining the school in September and working with pupils, staff and families to shape an ambitious and exciting future”.

This appointment builds on the hard work and legacy established under Chris Townsend’s leadership. We extend our deep appreciation for his significant contribution to Felsted’s continued success and look forward to following his progress in his new position as Head of Cheltenham College.
