THE sounds of a heavenly harp, tumultuous trumpets and serenading strings echoed around a packed school hall as young musicians showcased their skills.
Pupils from Barnard Castle Preparatory School took to the stage to help family and friends get in the festive spirit.
Performances included It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Somewhere Only We Know and Ding Dong Merrily on High.
Fans of the classic Christmas movie Home Alone recognised the theme tune as Prep Choir sang Somewhere in my Memory while the Year 3 and 4 strings ensembles enjoyed playing their respective renditions of Jingle Bells.
Year 5 and 6 performed In the Bleak Midwinter and Scenes of Winter and Sonia Amochkina mesmerised the audience on the harp with Andalusian.
The evening ended with a rousing rendition of Feliz Navidad by all the performers and the audience too.
Director of music George Ford said: “The support for this concert was immense and the house was truly packed.
“Everybody enjoyed showcasing what they had learnt over the term. For some of our pupils it was the first opportunity to perform in front of a large audience, and they certainly relished the experience.”
