Pupils from Kimbolton School enjoyed an outstanding evening at the inaugural Wellingborough School Art Competition in early December – with four children taking home prizes; one of whom was crowned overall exhibition winner.
The event brought together more than 200 pieces of creative work from six schools across the Northamptonshire area, showcasing drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography and digital media.
Lower Sixth pupil Charly S., one of Kimbolton School’s art scholars, enjoyed exceptional success on the night. Her pencil drawing Squished Face was Highly Commended, while her second piece, Girl in the Mirror, won the KS5 category before she was named Overall Winner of the entire competition. Charly was presented with the Duncan Ellison Cup in recognition of her achievement.
Other young artists from Kimbolton School, who impressed the judging panel, included:
- Harriett S. (Year 9) – who received a Highly Commended award for her detailed graphite study Pumpkins, a sensitive and atmospheric piece
- Masha B. (Year 11) – for an expressive Self Portrait which drew praise for its vibrant palette and emotional depth
- Upper Sixth artist Alex M. – who was recognised for A Long Lunch, an observational piece capturing a candid moment between two figures in a careful composition with subtle use of colour and texture.
Charlie Horry, Head of Art at Kimbolton School, said: “This competition celebrates creativity in all its forms and our pupils truly rose to the challenge. Each produced work that was thoughtful, technically assured and full of character. We are thrilled to see their efforts recognised in such a meaningful way and extend our thanks for the team at Wellingborough School for an inspiring launch for their new Art Competition.”
