St Swithunβs Prep School student Sharon Yang received an early festive surprise on Friday when the Member of Parliament for Winchester, Danny Chambers, visited the school to inform her that she had won his Christmas card design competition.
Selected from entries by children across Winchester, Sharonβs design will appear on Danny Chambersβ official Christmas card which will go out to over 40,000 homes across his Winchester constituency.
The year 4 studentβs effort was praised by Danny as he visited St Swithunβs Prep on Friday to let Sharon know the good news and to show her the final card design. They spent time talking about the card with Sharon also asking Danny about his campaign to save the penguins in a London Aquarium after hearing about their plight in a recent school assembly.
Sharon said, βI was really surprised that I won the competition because so many schools in Winchester were taking part. I enjoyed creating my design and drawing the Christmas tree the most because I liked coming up with all the decorations on it! It was really nice to meet Danny Chambers and find out what it is like to be an MP.β
Danny Chambers MP said, βWe were incredibly impressed with Sharonβs design and she had clearly put a lot of time into the entry. We were blown away by the calibre of the entries we received and Sharon was an incredibly worthy winner. It was lovely to be able to give the good news in person.β
Liz Norris head of St Swithunβs Prep added, βWe are very proud of Sharonβs efforts. Our students collectively put a lot of effort into community activities such as this. Sharonβs winning design will be appreciated by people across Winchester and the surrounding areas.β
