Haberdashers’ Monmouth School alumnus Dylan has been named one of Springpod’s 2025 Future Makers in the national 20 Under 20 awards for his outstanding leadership in wildlife conservation and sustainability.
Haberdashers’ Monmouth School is proud to announce that alumnus Dylan Allman has been named one of Springpod’s Future Makers of 2025, securing a place in the prestigious 20 Under 20 list which celebrates young people making remarkable contributions to society.
Recognised nationally for his outstanding environmental leadership, Dylan has spent years driving wildlife conservation and sustainability initiatives at both local and national levels. During his time at school he served as Senior Prefect for Sustainability, inspiring pupils across the community to take meaningful action on biodiversity, conservation and river health.
Dylan is best known as the founder of Hedgehog Aware, a rapidly growing national campaign that tackles the decline of British hedgehogs. Through this initiative he has partnered with major garden-equipment manufacturers, including Hyundai Power Products and STIGA, leading to hedgehog-safety warnings being introduced on national product ranges. His work has helped raise widespread awareness of the dangers posed to hedgehogs by strimmers and mowers.
Building on this impact, Dylan also established the Hedgehog First Response Unit in Monmouth, a volunteer-led service providing rapid assistance for hedgehogs in distress. The scheme has strengthened conservation efforts across the Wye Valley, offering hands-on rescue support while educating communities about wildlife protection.
Ms Jodie Knight, Director of Sixth Form, said:
“I nominated Dylan because he consistently turned his passion for the environment into real, measurable impact whilst with us and continues to do so as an alumnus. From founding Hedgehog Aware and launching the Hedgehog First Response Unit to collaborating with national organisations and engaging young people in biodiversity and river health projects, he shows initiative, responsibility and long-term commitment. He really is a Future Maker.”
Although Dylan was sadly unable to attend the awards ceremony due to illness, he said the recognition came as a “real honour”.
Reflecting on the achievement, he said:
“I’m so grateful for the school nominating me for this award, which recognises the impact that my sustainability work has had through amplifying youth voice and inspiring others. I would encourage everyone to read the full report of inspirational stories from Future Makers, which showcase our potential as young people to make a real difference and achieve change in a sometimes challenging and resistant world.”
Dylan, who is now undertaking a degree apprenticeship with Transport for London, has also contributed to Springpod’s judging panel, helping to recognise employers that meaningfully support early career development.
Springpod’s CEO praised this year’s Future Makers as young leaders already shaping the world around them, highlighting their “creativity, determination and courage” as evidence of the positive change young people are driving today.
Haberdashers’ Monmouth School extends its warmest congratulations to Dylan on this exceptional national achievement.
