Kimbolton School, Cambridgeshire, has been judged to meet all the Independent Schools Standards in every area following a full inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) in September 2025.
Inspectors praised the school’s strong leadership, inclusive ethos, and commitment to pupil wellbeing and personal development. The report highlights the quality of teaching, the breadth of opportunities offered, and the school’s clear sense of purpose rooted in its values of Courage, Curiosity, Endeavour, Integrity, and Kindness.
“Governors and leaders work closely together to ensure that pupil wellbeing is central to the school’s ethos and future planning,” the report states. “Leaders ensure that pupils benefit from a broad and well-resourced academic curriculum… and an extensive programme of co-curricular opportunities which support their broader preparation for adult life.”
The inspection confirmed that all statutory standards are met across every category, including leadership and governance, quality of education, pupils’ physical and mental wellbeing, contribution to society, and safeguarding. Inspectors commended the quality of teaching and the impact of staff development, noting that “teaching is often ambitious, enabling pupils to express their ideas with increasing confidence,” and that pupils “achieve high-quality qualifications and go on to appropriate post-18 destinations.” Boarding was described as “warm and inclusive”, providing a “homely atmosphere where boarders feel safe, grow in confidence and develop independence.”
Inspectors also supported the school’s planned expansion to include children from age three, noting the thorough preparation and resourcing for the new Pre-School, which is due to open in January 2026.
Headmaster, Will Chuter, said: “We are delighted that the inspectors recognised Kimbolton’s strength as a vibrant, forward-looking community that places children’s wellbeing and development at the heart of everything we do. This report reflects the dedication of our staff, the commitment of our governors, and the enthusiasm and kindness of our pupils.”
The report also noted the school’s proactive approach to mental health and safeguarding, with “wellbeing hubs” supporting early intervention and “robust safer recruitment processes” in place. In its summary, ISI praised Kimbolton’s strong sense of social responsibility: “Pupils regularly engage in charitable fundraising and volunteer in the local community in line with the school’s aim that pupils should be prepared to make a difference in the world.”
Mr Chuter added: “We are proud that the inspection recognises both our achievements and our ambition for the future, including the exciting launch of our new Pre-School and our continued commitment to nurturing confident, compassionate young people. I would like to thank all our pupils, parents, and our dedicated team for everything they do to deliver the Kimbolton experience to such a high standard.”
