HERTFORDSHIRE: St Edmund’s College & Prep School marked World Mental Health Day on Thursday 10th October with a series of activities aimed at raising awareness, encouraging open discussion and promoting positive mental health across the school community.
Pupils and staff were invited to wear yellow for the day – the official colour of mental health awareness – creating a bright and uplifting atmosphere across the school. The day started with a House assembly, led by Housemasters/Housemistresses, focusing on understanding mental health, building resilience, and highlighting where students can seek help if needed.
A key theme of the day was the importance of looking out for one another and fostering a supportive, caring school community in which everyone can thrive. At lunchtime, students enjoyed a range of wellbeing activities promoting positive mental health and self-care. The school’s catering team also joined in the spirit by serving yellow-themed snacks and desserts. Adding to the tone of the day, the school bell was replaced with the song “Yellow” by Coldplay.
Lucy Dunhill, Assistant Head Safeguarding & Wellbeing / DSL, at St Edmund’s College & Prep School, said: “At St Edmund’s, we recognise that mental health is just as important as physical health. Days like this give us an opportunity to remind our pupils that support is always available, and that kindness, empathy, and connection make a real difference.”
