Brentwood School Launches Pioneering Darts Programme

Posted: 15th October 2025

Brentwood School has become the first in the UK to introduce a timetabled weekly darts scheme, as Sixth Form students pioneer a brand-new Co-Curricular Darts Programme designed to develop precision, leadership, and teamwork through the sport.

The innovative initiative sees 18 Sixth Form students take part in darts sessions every Tuesday morning. The programme, led by Teacher of Geography Mr Dave Wright, is backed by former Brentwood parent, PDC President and Matchroom Founder Barry Hearn OBE. Mr Wright has worked alongside Sixth Form students Jenson L-G and Jack N to design and deliver the sessions, which encourage independence, collaboration, and sportsmanship. “We’re doing things other schools could only dream of being able to do,” said Jenson. “The Brentwood Bullseyes are laying down the foundations for global darts in schools.”

The inaugural Brentwood School Darts Championship marked the culmination of the first half-term of the programme. Students competed in group stages before progressing to an electrifying Finals event held in Memorial Hall, which for one morning was transformed by Mr Herson into Ally Pally, complete with walk-on songs, stage lighting, and a buzzing crowd atmosphere. Expertly hosted by Jenson, the competition was fierce and saw Luca B be crowned the first-ever Brentwood School Darts Champion, with Barry Hearn presenting him the trophy. Barry also hosted a fascinating Q&A and masterclass with the students, ahead of the final, all of which he said was “great fun” and a “pleasure to be involved with”.

Following the Championship, students enjoyed a two-hour session at The Oche London, a modern, tech-driven darts venue offering a mix of fun and team-building games: the perfect way to celebrate the success of the School’s trailblazing new programme.

Brentwood School’s Co-Curricular Darts Programme embodies the School’s forward-thinking approach to education, combining innovation, leadership, and enjoyment to provide students with opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom.

Mr Wright said “I truly believe that this could be the start of something special. It has already created such a positive culture and hype in the School — the ‘Luke Littler Effect’ has transformed the game and inspired a generation.”
