Greenwich Hospital and Inspired Learning Group (ILG) have announced that the Royal Hospital School (RHS) will join ILG through an agreed transfer of ownership, strengthening the school’s future and opening a new chapter of growth and opportunity. Completion is expected mid-November subject to normal processes, with the sale allowing Greenwich Hospital as the key Royal Navy charity funder to focus resources and funding on supporting beneficiaries.
The transition will be carefully managed to ensure continuity of education whilst enabling investment, innovation, and long-term sustainability for the Royal Hospital School.
Greenwich Hospital has looked after the Royal Hospital School and cared for its pupils since its founding in 1712. Today the school has a strong reputation within the independent sector, known for delivering an outstanding broad and holistic education underpinned by exceptional pastoral care and a strong sense of community.
When it opened, all RHS pupils were the children of Royal Navy sailors. Today however a much smaller number of children come from naval families and, with its enduring commitment to the Royal Navy community, Greenwich Hospital has therefore chosen to transfer ownership to ILG. Becoming part of ILG will ensure that the school’s history and values are respected and that the school continues to thrive in what is a rapidly evolving educational landscape. It will also ensure resilience and longevity for future generations.
Deirdre Mills, Director of Greenwich Hospital, said:
“Greenwich Hospital is proud of all that the Royal Hospital School has achieved over the years, both academically and in nurturing the development of all our pupils. This new phase in the school’s journey brings fresh opportunities and investment while safeguarding all that makes the Royal Hospital School such a special place. I am confident that by joining the Inspired Learning Group the school will continue to flourish and that its unique values, culture, and community will remain.”
Amit Mehta, Founder of Inspired Learning Group, commented:
“We are honoured to be entrusted with the next chapter of Royal Hospital School’s journey. Its heritage is unique, and we are committed to preserving and enhancing Greenwich Hospital’s legacy. We will invest in the school’s future, expanding opportunities for pupils and staff, and delivering an outstanding education for many years to come.”
Irfan Latif, Headmaster of Royal Hospital School, added:
“We are enormously grateful for our joint history with Greenwich Hospital, which has defined the school’s values and ethos. As we now look to the future with the Inspired Learning Group, we are excited to build on this foundation, ensuring continuity for our families and staff while unlocking new opportunities for growth, innovation, and excellence.”
