This summer, Milton Abbey School bids farewell to a true legend. Mr Hugo Mieville, our MAA Manager and the longest serving member of staff, is retiring after an extraordinary 40 years of service.
Hugo first arrived in Dorset in 1985 as a French teacher, quickly making his mark as Head of Languages, Master i/c Football, and Athelstan Housemaster during the 1990s. His influence extended far and wide as he took on senior roles including Director of Co-curricular, Senior Master, and since 2016, the Milton Abbey Association (MAA) Manager
In that time, Hugo has helped steer the school through four decades, serving under six different Headmasters, and contributing to almost every facet of life. Beyond Milton Abbey, he now serves as Mayor of Blandford, continuing his commitment to the wider community.
Generations of Miltonians, pupils, parents, and staff, have benefitted from Hugo’s wisdom, care, and dedication. He has been a guiding hand, a supportive colleague, and a master educator in the truest sense. His kindness, deep knowledge, and thoughtful leadership have left an indelible mark on all who have worked with him.
As he steps into retirement, we thank Hugo for his lifetime of service, friendship, and unwavering ‘duty to the common good.’ A remarkable Miltonian, through and through.
