Woodhouse Grove School was honoured to welcome back two distinguished Old Grovians last Friday: Major General Tim Hodgetts (Grovian 1974 – 81) and Brigadier Phil Carter (Grovian 1983 – 90).
Their visit began with an engaging talk in the McCarthy Theatre, where they addressed our Year 7 and 8 students, sharing stories from their time at The Grove and offering valuable insights from their remarkable careers in the British Army. They later held a Q&A session with students aspiring to embark on careers in Medicine, Healthcare and the Armed Forces.
Major General Hodgetts and Brigadier Carter both reflected on how the values instilled during their time at Woodhouse Grove had continued to shape and support them throughout their lives. As part of their visit, they shared an overview of their service and proudly displayed their collective medals, leaving a lasting impression on all those present.
Their return to The Grove was both inspiring and humbling — a powerful reminder of the character, resilience and community spirit that define a Grovian.
