Bromsgrove School enjoyed notable success at the 113th Midlands Girls’ Schools Championships – a distinguished and historic event which continues to be a cornerstone of the School’s tennis calendar.
In a tournament featuring a particularly strong field, Bromsgrove’s girls approached the day with admirable preparation, professionalism and quiet determination. The format of the competition demanded considerable resilience, with teams required to contest seven matches simply to reach the final.
The School’s pairing of Gina Obrey and Grace Hadley performed superbly throughout the group stages, securing six wins from seven matches to earn their place in the final. Composed and courageous, they navigated high-level opposition and the unpredictable nature of a fast-paced scoring format with real maturity.
In the final, the Bromsgrove pair made an impressive start, executing their game plan with precision to establish an early 5–1 lead. Their opponents from King’s High levelled the match at 5–5 after saving three match points.
In the decisive moments, Gina and Grace quickly took control to lead 6–2. This time, there was no letting go – they saw out the match with conviction to secure the title and bring the championship trophy back to Bromsgrove.
The result stands as a testament to the girls’ character, composure, and commitment, and adds a proud chapter to Bromsgrove’s rich sporting tradition.
