Wellington School was delighted to welcome two international rugby superstars to a day of training and Q&A sessions.
International England rugby legends Marlie Packer and Rosie Galligan visited Wellington School to support the ever expanding girls’ rugby programme and to talk about their experiences.
Marlie is rugby royalty, with over 108 England Caps, the 2023 World Player of the Year and former Red Roses Captain, whilst Rosie has won 25 England Caps and was a part of the recent Grand Slam winning Six Nations side.
Over 40 Wellington girl rugby players from Year 7 to 13 had lunch with Marlie and Rosie and enjoyed a Q&A session with some awesome stories and great advice, not just to those who love sport but, to any young females wanting to succeed. They were thrilled to meet up with Wellington School’s own rugby legend, Year 13 Izzy who herself is on track for a glittering rugby career, as part of the England U18 Six Nations Squad.
Marlie and Rosie visited the Prep School where they were grilled by pupils in Year 2 to Year 6 about their careers, with questions including ‘Who has the best anthem’ and ‘Have you ever thought about playing for Wales?’
As a grand finale, Marlie and Rosie ran an outstanding training session for girls who have played before, as well as for those who wanted to try it for the first time.
Wellington School Head of Rugby, Will Garrett commented, “the girls were absolutely buzzing and were thrilled to have the chance for selfies and autographs.”
“We were so lucky to have welcomed Marlie and Rosie and look forward to seeing them again soon, as we look to further build girls rugby. Marlie and Rosie were outstanding ambassadors for the game and we wish them all the best of luck ahead of the World Cup in a few months,” concluded Mr Garrett.
