On Thursday the 15th of May, Huish hosted NextGen, a free networking event that brought business leaders and students together to discuss career insights and opportunities.
Organised in partnership with Somerset Chamber of Commerce and Taunton Chamber of Commerce, the event programme kicked off with networking, pastries and refreshments before a presentation from Becky Flower, Vice Principal of Student Experience.
Business and Economics students were then divided into interview groups with business representatives, giving students the chance to enquire about application processes, interview tips, CV writing, the wide range of job roles available and the business representatives’ journeys to their chosen career.
During these interview sessions, visiting business leaders were also able to gain an understanding of students’ priorities when it comes to choosing potential employers, what careers were being considered, and what influences post-college progression decisions.
Huish would like to extend a huge thanks to Taunton Chamber and Somerset Chamber for helping to host such an insightful event, as well as all business participants that took time out of their busy schedules to support our students and the workforce of the future.
Business representatives in attendance were: David Crew from Somerset Chamber of Commerce, Bethan Turner from Taunton Chamber of Commerce, Richard Holt from Creative Innovation Centre (CIC), Naomi Gosling from A C Mole, Brian Stoneman from Academy ICT, Simon Cutler and Charlie Wright from Blackdown Financial, Laura Mackain-Bremner from Clarke Willmott, Marie Howard from Dorset And Somerset Training Provider Network, Susan Fairless and Stef Hinde from Everys Solicitors, Jonathan Dicker and Sarah Tucker from Numatic International, Bhavani Hogarty and Georgia Clulee from Pardoes Solicitors, Tim Church from Somerset Web Services Ltd, Mary Crew and Andrew Johns from Stantec, Heidi Riezzo from Synchrony HR Consulting, Giles Adams from Visit Somerset, and Charlie MacEwan, Sharon Shier and Chloe Marchant from WPA Health Insurance.
