Monkton Combe School Welcomes New Director of Sport, Alex Leach
Monkton Combe School is delighted to announce the appointment of Alex Leach as its new Director of Sport; Alex will join the school in September after 16 successful years at Portsmouth Grammar School. He brings a wealth of experience, enthusiasm, and a deep-rooted passion for sport and education.
Originally from the West Country, Alex describes his move to Monkton as a kind of homecoming. “I grew up playing against Monkton and I always left thinking of the facilities, the setting of the schoolβand it left an imprint on me. So when the opportunity came up to be the Director of Sport at a school like this, and have that responsibility, it was a boyhood dream.β
Alexβs philosophy centres on the powerful connection between sport and the classroom. βIβm a great believer that education and sport work hand in hand, Iβve been lucky to work with students who have achieved in both. Often, if you are driven in academics, then you are driven in sport.β
Following the interview and a visit to Monkton, Alex has been struck by the schoolβs warm welcome. βIβve been met with so many smiles and handshakes, which gives you that sense of belonging. Itβs so important that in a sports departmentβand at a school like Monktonβeveryone feels like they do belong and that we are there to support every student as an individual.β
Reflecting on the move, he added, βone of the interesting aspects of a school like Monkton is that it always seems to exceed expectations. I feel unbelievably privileged to be working in this environment where every day is an adventure.β
Monkton looks forward to the future of sport under Alexβs leadership, as he builds on the school’s strong foundations and elite partnerships, helping pupils succeedβboth on and off the field.
