St Edmund’s College, Ware, is proud to announce that one of its talented students, Pippa Webster, has successfully secured the prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship, earning the distinguished title of Arkwright Scholar. This remarkable achievement reflects Pippa’s hard work, dedication and passion for engineering.
Pippa’s journey to becoming an Arkwright Scholar was no easy feat. Alongside fellow students, she navigated the rigorous selection process set by Arkwright Engineering Scholarships – becoming the only student from St Edmund’s College to advance to the interview stage, where she performed exceptionally well.
The Arkwright Engineering Scholarships programme is the most esteemed scholarship scheme of its type in the UK, with over 8,000 scholarships awarded to date. The academic year 2024 saw a record total of 1,532 applications submitted, representing a significant year-on-year increase of 15% and the second-highest number of applications ever received since the programme began over thirty years ago.
St Edmund’s College has participated in this coveted programme for around eight years, with past successes highlighting the high standard required to secure a scholarship. The programme is highly respected within the fields of STEM and engineering, carrying considerable weight with universities and industry leaders.
Arkwright Scholarships are sponsored by commercial companies, trade associations, universities, professional institutions, armed services, government organisations, worshipful companies, charitable trusts, or personal donors. Recipients benefit from invaluable hands-on work experience, support for curriculum projects, and personal mentorship to help guide their studies and career development.
Matthew Mostyn, Headmaster at St Edmund’s College, said: “Our heartfelt congratulations go to Pippa on this outstanding achievement – a moment of immense pride for her, her family, and the entire St Edmund’s community. Securing the Arkwright Scholarship is a testament not only to Pippa’s exceptional talent, determination and hard work, but also to the unwavering support and mentorship she received along the way. I’d particularly like to acknowledge Miss Anne Marie Healy, whose belief in Pippa and dedicated guidance played a pivotal role throughout this journey. We are incredibly proud of what Pippa has accomplished and we look forward to seeing all that she will achieve in the future.”
