Two Millfield Hockey players have been selected to represent Scotland.
Lower Sixth students Charlotte Robertson and Cameron Miller will be representing Scotland U18 and
U17 teams.
Seventeen-year-old Charlotte from Edinburgh joined Millfield in September to further develop her
skills and pursue her passion in hockey. She said, “Millfield stood out to me as it was one of the top
hockey schools in the country. I was shown around the school, and I knew instantly that this was the
right decision for me. I saw Millfield as a community, walking around the campus everyone was
smiling and friendly. The facilities were on another level, and I could see that the school treated
pupils like athletes and understood their abilities and needs.”
Charlotte who has been selected for the Scotland U18 squad, has previously been selected to play
for the U16 squads for the past two years. She said, “Being selected for a national squad
undoubtedly gave me a sense of pride and accomplishment as I have always dreamed about it ever
since I started playing hockey at age 7.”
Charlotte has formed strong friendships on the hockey team since joining Millfield. She said,
“Millfield hockey is the perfect combination of pushing one another to the best of our ability during
training sessions, followed by having team lunch, enjoying each other’s company, and laughing our
heads off. Millfield hockey has shown me my love for the sport and my teammates, we encourage
one another on and off the pitch. The bond I have created with my teammates at school is
extraordinary, every time I step onto the hockey pitch for a match or a training session, I see it as a
privilege.”
In the future, Charlotte is planning to pursue a hockey scholarship in the US.
Sixteen-year-old Cameron from Gullane joined Millfield in Lower Sixth to continue playing hockey at
a high level and to immerse himself in a new environment in England as well as gaining new
experiences on and off the hockey pitch. He said, “The biggest incentive to join Millfield was the
longing for change. I felt that I needed to have some other experiences before I go into my life after
school. I think transitioning into a very big school in England meant that I had to adapt and embrace
a new culture. So far, I have been really enjoying it”.
Cameron’s confidence on the hockey pitch has improved since his selection for the Scotland U17
squad and joining the hockey programme. He said, “The biggest thing that Millfield Hockey has
helped me with is my game knowledge and decision-making. The regime in place here means that I
know exactly what is required of me and allows me to feel much more confident in making the
correct decision. I enjoy the hockey at Millfield because it feels very professional. Before matches,
we do in-class sessions discussing our game plans and arrive to matches in the same kit which just
adds that extra bit of confidence for me, like we’re one unit together.”
In the future, Cameron hopes to continue playing hockey and would like to start playing aboard in
the Netherlands or Germany which have strong hockey traditions
