Posted: 27th February 2024

The outstanding, award-winning North Yorkshire independent school, Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate, is thrilled to announce their new driver for the popular CityCar Cup Student Motorsport Challenge 2024!

Haydn Payne, 18, a young, talented and accomplished driver, has joined the team and is set to make a significant impact on the upcoming BRSCC CityCar Cup Drivers Championship and Student Motorsport Challenge 2024.

With an impressive track record of racing in the Challenge in 2023, Haydn brings a young and dynamic approach to the Queen Ethelburga’s Motorsport Student Team. Known for his exceptional racing prowess, dedication to succeeding, and a passion for pushing the limits, Haydn aligns perfectly with the values and ambitions of our team.

Helen Snuggs, QE Motorsport Team Leader comments: “We are excited about Haydn joining us for the 2024 Season. He proved his dedication and success on track last year and we feel that the students will learn a great deal from his feedback and thirst to succeed.”

Haydn expressed his enthusiasm about joining QE Motorsport Team, stating, “I am looking forward to racing for Team QE. They are an enthusiastic group of students and with good communication we can learn a great deal from each other throughout the season.”

As everyone gears up for the upcoming BRSCC CityCar Cup Drivers Championship and Student Motorsport Challenge, Team QE is confident that the addition of Haydn will contribute to their success and strengthen their position as a top contender in 2024.

The Collegiate launched QE Motorsport in September 2022 as part of their dedication to driving forward new and exciting extra-curricular opportunities for its students. It started

when a team from Student Motorsport and a team from Oxford Brookes University visited with a kit to prepare a car and coordinated a “Pit Stop Challenge” to demonstrate what is involved in building a race car.

From there, a team of 28 Year 12 students worked alongside QE staff and Race Engineer, Will Snuggs from WJS Motorsport Engineering & Trackside, to transform the standard Citroen C1 into a race-ready contender.

Last season, the team achieved 4th Place overall in the Student Motorsport Challenge, a racing class within the BRSCC Nankang Tyre CityCar Cup Championship. QE are the first ever UK school to compete in the Challenge.
