Hillingdon school student finishes successful internship with Mars Wrigley

Yasmine A, a Grade 12 student at ACS International School Hillingdon, has completed a two-month internship with globally-recognised manufacturing company, Mars Wrigley, which is responsible for producing some of the world’s biggest brands including Mars, Pedigree, Ben’s Original, and Extra Gum.

Yasmine, who is a Deputy Head Hawk (Deputy Head Girl) at ACS Hillingdon, secured the internship earlier this year after completing an application process and interview.

During her time at the company, Yasmine, who is hoping to study International Management at The University of Bath next year, shadowed a senior member of the Mars Wrigley team and learnt about business planning and marketing, whilst developing her problem-solving skills. Yasmine was also invited to one of Mars Wrigley’s European factories in the Netherlands for two days to learn more about how factories operate. She also learnt about AI in the supply chain and the complex logistical processes involved in manufacturing.

On completion of the internship, Yasmine presented to the team on incorporating AI into the supply chain and the benefits this could bring to the business. Speaking about the opportunity, Yasmine said: “Working at Mars Wrigley was incredibly inspiring, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to have shadowed a fantastic team at a manufacturing company that operates across the world. During my time at Mars Wrigley, I learnt valuable skills about business and operations, which I will take with me to university and into my future career. A highlight for me was exploring AI in the supply chain and building a presentation to showcase to the team.”

Yasmine’s recent internship with Mars Wrigley builds on an already impressive CV. In the summer, Yasmine completed a separate five-day internship with InvestIN on entrepreneurship and supported a local women’s football club with its social media.

Martin Hall, Head of School at ACS Hillingdon, said: “We are so pleased for Yasmine who has done an excellent job learning first-hand all about the ever-changing world of business and global manufacturing. At ACS Hillingdon, we take great pride in our industry links and specialist approach to work experience which helps students develop vital life skills and work readiness. By engaging with employers in this way, and introducing students to the workplace, we can better prepare them for whatever comes next in their lives.”
