Bishop’s Stortford College celebrate hockey and rugby successes at IAPS competitions.

Bishop’s Stortford College U12 girls have been crowned Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) National Hockey Champions, topping a successful sporting season for the College in IAPS tournaments.

The IAPS U12 national hockey championships took place at Clifton College on Friday 1 December. Played in a round-robin style, the tournament saw the College competing against 26 schools, with the girls taking on teams from Repton Prep, Dragon School, Perrott Hill School, Taunton School, Cheltenham College Prep School, King’s College School, Twyford School and St Faith’s School. From their nine matches, the College’s U12 team won seven and drew just two, conceding no goals throughout the entire championship.

The final saw the College take on King’s College School, drawing 0-0 at full time. The match went to flicks where the girls scored twice. The College goalkeeper maintained her clean sheet, saving both flicks from the opposition, resulting in the team being crowned College U12 national champions.

The win follows a successful season for the College in both hockey and rugby, with U11 and U13 boys’ teams securing victories at their respective IAPS rugby tournaments.

Director of Sport, Health and Fitness at the College, Evan Stewart, commented “We are extremely proud of our pupils for a fantastic hockey and rugby season. Their hard work during games and training has paid off and is reflected by their success in the IAPS tournaments. Our U12 girls’ hockey team are also ending the season on a further high; just three days after their IAPS national win, they were also crowned regional champions at the England Hockey competition. We look forward to building on their success next term as they progress through the tournament.”
