Millfield Netballer selected to represent Northern Ireland

Posted: 9th November 2023

Millfield netballer Matilda Moore has been selected into the U17 Northern Ireland Long Squad for the 2023-24 season.

First team player Matilda took part in a rigorous set of trials to gain her selection, and is looking to represent Northern Ireland in various international fixtures, including the U17 European Championships which will take place in Gibraltar, in March 2024.

Matilda said “I’m really excited for the selection, especially the opportunities I will get to play against other teams at an international level whilst representing my nation.”

Sixteen-year-old Matilda started playing netball at the age of 8 at Gurnard Netball Club on the Isle of Wight. Matilda joined Millfiled in Lower Sixth in September this year as a talented shooter and is also a part of the Team Bath Performance Pathway.

Matilda said “I have wanted to join Millfield for a long time, but I finally took the next step and joined for Lower Sixth so that I could play netball at a higher level. I have always wanted to go to a school where everything is close to me, having spent years travelling across from the Isle of Wight, multiple times a week to play netball. The programme here is special as the team is so close knit and train together most days of the week. There is also such a high level of netball at Millfield with great coaching and nice people involved. So far I have learnt a lot and I’m excited for the future.”

Millfield Director of Netball, Jenna Adamson, said “I am absolutely thrilled for Matilda and her selection into the Northern Ireland U17 Squad. A talented and hard working individual with a bright future ahead. I am looking forward to watching Matilda shine on an international stage and following her progress over the season.”

Millfield have a number of specialist Netball staff who are highly experienced coaches and players involved in Senior International Squads, the Netball Superleague, England Performance pathway, and Premier League Clubs. Annually, Millfield has athletes representing Superleague franchises across various age groups within the National Performance League and at Superleague.
