Posted: 11th October 2023

Strathallan School pupil Hailey Ho is set to face some of the world’s top badminton players this week as she gears up for the Scottish Open Badminton Championships

The 17-year-old pupil from Perthshire will represent Scotland this week, following a terrific season last year and recent victories at the Midland Senior Double Final and the Women’s Final at the Edinburgh Badminton Academy Bronze Championships with her partner Alison Shearer.

Speaking of her selection, Hailey said, “I’m absolutely thrilled to be selected for the Scottish regional performance Squad to represent Scotland. It’s the culmination of years of hard work, and I can’t wait to give it my all on the court at the Scottish Open.”

Academic and Sports Scholar at Strathallan, Hailey now captains the Badminton team at School and boasts a top 50 ranking in both singles and doubles.

First picking up a racket at the age of six, Hailey said she fell in love with the sport because of the speed.

She said, “I love badminton because it is so fast and dynamic. It demands a lot from players in terms of agility and reactions.”

Director of Sport at Strathallan, Jim Thompson said, “We are immensely proud of Hailey’s selection to represent Scotland at the Open. Hailey puts in a tremendous amount of effort to badminton and has been instrumental in guiding the development of younger players at the school.  We can’t wait to see how she gets on this week. Good luck Hailey!”

The Scottish Open 2023 will be held at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th October 2023.
