Strathallan’s Head Cadet lands Army Officer Scholarship

Posted: 11th September 2023

Strathallan School pupil Lisa Bady has been awarded a prestigious Army Officer Scholarship following a highly competitive process.

The Army Officer Scholarship Scheme is offered to students who have the potential to make excellent Army officers. The Scheme guarantees financial support during further education as well as a place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and a career as an Army Officer once they have graduated.

With less than 100 scholarships awarded across the UK each year, Lisa said receiving the news was a dream come true.

“It’s amazing. I’m so thrilled to be awarded the scholarship. The actual assessment was really fun, I was doing what I’ve always wanted to do and I’ve already made some great friends,” said the 16-year-old from Orkney.

Currently Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) at Strathallan School, Lisa leads the three Combined Cadet Force (CCF) sections through leadership tasks, drill, weapons handling, field craft and other life skills.

“The CCF at Strathallan is massive as we’ve just added Third and Fourth Form pupils to our ranks. So I want to help organise it and help our new cadets realise the opportunities ahead of them. The CCF is transformational and it can open doors.”

Lisa is planning to study History and Linguistics at university before she heads to Sandhurst to begin Officer Training.

Major Charlotte Marjoribanks, Strathallan CCF Contingent Commander, said “We are immensely proud of Lisa. This is hugely competitive and tough process. Lisa has worked so hard in school and CCF, preparing for her scholarship and she has an exciting career ahead of her. She is an exemplary cadet.”
